T’was the Night Before Christmas
I’m remote blogging (in bed) in the middle of the night waiting for Santa to come by to drop off my daughter’s present, eat some cookies, and drink some milk.
Merry Christmas everyone! It just turned midnight and I’m awaiting sleigh bells on my roof top anytime soon. Christmas eve was a wonderful yet busy day. My little family started the day with a BIG breakfast with eggs, sausage, and choice of hashbrowns or pancakes. Personally, I was looking for the large cup of java to kick start my day and all the things I had to get done today.
I spent the entire day preparing turkey dinner, cleaning dishes, and doing the laundry. In the midst of the domestic burden, I was tying up loose ends with Christmas gifts and Christmas dinner. My daughter and husband were tasked to do some last minute shopping for tonight’s dinner followed by skating at the local ice rink. My daughter was on the hunt for a gingerbread house to make and was given one for free intead. What a lucky girl. My husband, on he other hnd, fielded random texts sent by me asking him to buy pie for tonight’s dessert. He brought home an apple pie and a Double Tall Non-Fat Latte. The day was looking up.
Although it took hours to prepare and minutes to eat, the free-range turkey we got from the local butcher’s shop and all it’s fixings were delicious. The best part of the day is watching my daughter get excited about Santa’s arrival, setting up flashing lights, preparing snacks, and writing him a special note. She eventually went to bed at 10pm and did not fall asleep until close to 11pm. Personally, I was getting tired. She did insist that we’d all be in bed before midnight so that Santa could come to our home. My daughter is 8 and she still believes. I love that.
What I am not looking forward to are all of the alarm clocks my daughter set for 5am. Oh my goodness, at 5am it’s still dark outside. I suspect I should be falling asleep soon. I do have turkey congee cooking in the slow cooker so that it will be ready for 5am to eat. I will definely need my coffee too. if it is not the bells from Santa’s sleigh that may wake me this morning, it will be the relentless sounds of buzzing from our alarm clocks that will definitely catch my attention.
Wishing you all the best this holiday season… Santa is coming. Good night and Merry Christmas.
